Project description

Apollo is a music streaming platform inspired by the Greek god of music, Apollo. It is a sleek, modern music streaming app designed to offer users a seamless, emotionally engaging experience with their favorite artists, playlists, and genres. The goal was to create a design that not only looks beautiful but also feels personal, intuitive, and deeply immersive giving listeners a direct connection to the music they love.

Timeline

From explorations to final designs in 5 weeks while working with multiple projects at the same time

Background The initial version of the app lacked personalization, and users found it difficult to discover meditations that suited their preferences. There was also a need for a more engaging user interface that aligned with the app’s core mission—reducing stress and promoting mindfulness through tailored experiences.

Process

The Apollo music app was designed through a user-centered process focused on creating an immersive and intuitive listening experience.

  • Research & Discovery: Studied user habits and analyzed competitors to identify common pain points like cluttered interfaces and poor content access.

  • User Personas: Defined key user types Casual Listener, Music Explorer, and Audiophile to guide feature priorities.

  • Wireframing: Mapped user flows with low-fidelity wireframes, focusing on minimal steps from launch to playback.

  • Visual Design: Developed a sleek dark-mode UI with neon accents, fluid transitions, and an immersive music player.

  • Testing & Refinement: Collected feedback to improve navigation, contrast, and responsiveness.

Outcome: Apollo blends clean UI, smart features, and emotional design to give users a premium and personalized music experience.

Research & Planning

To build a music app that truly resonates, I began by studying popular platforms (Spotify, Apple Music, etc.) and conducting user research to identify key needs.

Key insights included:

  • Users want fast, easy access to favorites

  • Cluttered UIs and repetitive suggestions are major turn-offs

  • Visual and emotional elements (like animated artwork and lyrics) enhance engagement

I defined three user personas the Casual Listener, the Explorer, and the Focused Listener to guide design choices. Competitor analysis revealed opportunities for a more emotional, clean, and intelligent experience.

From there, I planned essential features like a personalized home feed, mood-based playlists, a clean library layout, and an immersive player screen. A futuristic design style was selected to reflect the rhythm and emotion of music.

Result: A strong foundation for a sleek, personal, and intuitive streaming experience.

Solution

Apollo was designed to solve common problems in music streaming apps like cluttered interfaces, weak personalization, and lack of emotional connection.

Core solutions include:

  • A clean, intuitive UI with simplified navigation

  • Personalized recommendations powered by user habits and mood-based filters

  • An immersive player with animated visuals and lyrics view

  • Organized library sorted by genre, mood, and activity

  • A futuristic visual style with neon accents and smooth transitions

Result: A music experience that’s not just functional it feels personal, emotional, and beautifully immersive.

How it works:

Apollo uses smart, adaptive algorithms to create a personalized and emotionally engaging music experience.

  • Recommendation Engine: Combines collaborative and content-based filtering, plus context like time of day and listening habits.

  • Mood & Genre Detection: Tags songs by tempo, energy, and mood to power mood-based playlists.

  • Smart Library Sorting: Organizes content by user behavior recently played, favorites, activity type.

  • Search Intelligence: Supports voice input and fuzzy search with results based on user history.

  • Feedback Loop: Every play, like, or skip helps improve future recommendations.

Result: The more you use Apollo, the smarter and more personal your music experience becomes.
